Driver Education FAQ
Behind the Wheel
Do I need to have my own car insurance for behind-the-wheel?
No. Because the student driver is under AAA Driver Education's care, custody and control while in the school's vehicles, the school's insurance will serve as the primary coverage on any claims. AAA Driver Education is insured by Erie Insurance and carries liability coverage limits that meet or exceed state standards.
Do you charge a cancellation fee?
No cancellation fee will be charged if you cancel your driving lesson 24 hours or more prior to your scheduled appointment. Failure to provide 24 hours cancellation notice may result in an additional fee of $50 per scheduled hour of driving. Exceptions are made for COVID-19. (See COVID-19 Precautionary Measures.)
Will I have other students in the car with me?
No. Only the student and instructor will be allowed in the vehicle at the same time.
How do I schedule a behind-the-wheel lesson?
Once you have paid your tuition in full and complete your 24 hours of classroom instruction, you will be able to schedule your drive times from this site!
Will I have the same instructor for every lesson?
We will do our best to schedule the same instructor for every lesson. In some cases you may have a different instructor during the drive times.
Can I request a specific driving instructor?
Maybe. Some of our instructors only work on certain days of the week. If there's an instructor you'd like to drive with, let us know and we will try to schedule you with that person.
Can I sign up for additional hours of behind-the-wheel training?
Yes! In Ohio, students are required to complete 8 hours of behind-the-wheel training with a licensed driving instructor. AAA Driver Education offers additional behind-the-wheel training hours at a rate of $75 per hour for AAA members and $90 per hour for non-members. These hours may be purchased by clicking on the appropriate package on the "Teen & Novice Drivers" page and registering for the package.
Are your instructors licensed?
Yes. All instructors at AAA Driving School are licensed by the State of Ohio. All driving instructors in the state of Ohio must pass FBI/BCI background checks and have clean driving records.
Do you offer home pick-up or drop-off?
All behind-the-wheel training sessions will start and end at the driving school, 90 E. Wilson Bridge Rd., Worthington, Ohio.
This enables instructors to set routes that increase in difficulty as a student progresses. It also provides parents/caregivers with immediate feedback on their child's progress, so everyone knows what they need to work on before the next behind-the-wheel lesson.
What will I learn during my behind-the-wheel lessons?
These in-vehicle lessons are designed to not only facilitate the development of basic vehicle control, but also to promote safe driving habits and aid in hazard recognition and avoidance.
Can I use my own car?
AAA Driver Education will furnish a motor vehicle for instruction that has been fitted with appropriate safety features, including an instructor brake, instructor mirror and dash camera. Because these features are necessary to keep the student and instructor safe, AAA Driver Education requires students to train in school-owned vehicles.
How long can I drive with an instructor?
Most driving lessons will be two hours long. Students may also request additional one-hour lessons for a rate of $75 per hour for AAA members and $90 per hour for non-members. Ohio regulations prohibit more than four hours per day of any combination of classroom and/or behind-the-wheel instruction to be conducted with any one student.
